If the speed of sound in air is 330 m/s then,
find the number of tones present in an open
organ pipe of length 1 m whose frequency is $$\le$$ 1000 Hz.

Given, speed of sound, $$v=330 \mathrm{~m} / \mathrm{s}$$
Length of organ pipe, $$l=1 \mathrm{~m}$$
Frequency, $$f=1000 \mathrm{~Hz}$$
For open organ pipe,
Fundamental frequency, $$f_0=\frac{v}{2 l}=\frac{330}{2 	imes 1}=165 \mathrm{~Hz}$$
$$	herefore$$ Number of tones present in the open organ pipe
$$=\frac{f}{f_0}=\frac{1000}{165}=6.06 \simeq 6$$
